I was making a delivery to a couple in Florida and spotted this at the foot of their back steps half buried in the dirt. After we were done placing their purchase I asked about the marble stump. The owner said it had been there when they purchased the property years before and that the prior owner told her she used it to prop her foot up to tie her garden shoes.
I asked to purchase it and when they said yes I dug it out. At first I just thought it was cool. It wasn't until I got it back to the shop that we could clean it enough to find the signature. Machlin is a well documented artist represented at the Met and archived at the Smithsonian See less
