Born in 1910, in his early 20’s Irwin started a paint manufacturing company with a friend from art school. The two sold to local artist in NYC, and developed great relationships with many east coast artist of the time, a partnership that would carry their business through the Great Depression. In quick time Irwin was recognized as one of the leading minds in the art world and offered a position at the prestigious Smithsonian museum in Washington DC, where he worked as a art curator.
