Crafted in France circa 1920 by the renowned Longchamp pottery manufactory, each ceramic plate features seven asparagus spears molded in high relief, showcasing the naturalistic decoration characteristic of French barbotine pottery.

Each round plate features a delicately scalloped rim accented in pale green, framing the raised asparagus spears arranged horizontally across a creamy white background. The vegetables are beautifully hand painted in varying shades of green, with subtle lavender and purple highlights at the tips and contrasting brown accents along the stalks. The glossy glaze enhances the sculptural quality of the decoration, giving the asparagus a remarkably lifelike appearance.

Founded in Burgundy during the 19th century, the Longchamp pottery manufactory became well known for its decorative faience and majolica tableware, particularly its colorful botanical and naturalistic designs. These specialized asparagus plates reflect the French tradition of serving seasonal vegetables on dedicated tableware.

The six antique barbotine plates are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining their vibrant colors and glossy finish. Each plate is signed Longchamp on the underside and bears the impressed model number 1139, further identifying its origin.

Perfect for entertaining, displaying in a French country kitchen, or adding to a collection of antique majolica.
