Amazing signed surrealist modernist art pottery plate by Franz Bergmann.
Rare in both color and large size, this very heavy charger has an earthy blue/grey background with black artwork. Glazed on top and sides. Diameter of 14.5”
Signed on the underside with both F Bergmann and his cypher.
Franz Bergmann (1898-1977; Austrian/ American) was a celebrated artist known for his bold modernist murals, enamel over copper and art pottery pieces.
Fantastic collector piece.
Excellent vintage condition. Some marks on the edges of the piece part of the original firing, as shown.
