Made in England by Brown-Westhead, Moore & Co. in the Kew pattern, this circa 1887 ceramic box features delicate brown transfer decoration and an elongated rectangular silhouette with a coordinating lid. Inside, a divided compartment reflects its original purpose as part of a Victorian washstand or personal grooming set.

More than 135 years later, this distinctive piece feels wonderfully at home in today’s collected interiors. Use it to hold jewelry, keepsakes or small vanity accessories, or display it on a bathroom shelf, dresser or bedside table. Its warm brown-and-cream palette and botanical detailing complement English country, cottagecore, grandmillennial and traditional interiors.

An uncommon surviving example of Victorian washstand pottery, the box offers both decorative appeal and a fascinating connection to everyday life in the late 19th century.

Measures approximately 9” long × 4” deep × 1.75” tall.

In very good antique condition, with age-related crazing, light interior staining, glaze toning and minor discoloration along the edges. No chips or cracks noted. The brown transfer decoration remains well-defined. See less
