Vintage Teak Articulating Sails Sculpture with Rock Base by Paul Bechtold, Circa Mid 20th Century. Kinetic mixed media sculpture comprised of carved teak components in varying sizes and shapes, each mounted to a natural rock back with steel posts. Each sail articulates and is removable, allowing versatile presentations. Unsigned.
Paul E. Bechtold of Long Island spent majority of his life in the skylight business, all while creating artwork behind the scenes largely constructed from leftover and found material. He collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright early in his career on the Usonian House, but his personal body of work was largely unknown.
