Handmade American studio wall sculpture dating circa 1970–1980, created in a striking Brutalist and Cubist-influenced form. Constructed from formed paper mâché strips over a mounted board substrate, the piece reflects the postmodern fascination with abstracted tribal forms, geometric planes, and textured handcrafted surfaces that defined designer interiors during the 1970s.
The elongated angular nose, recessed eyes, carved linear patterning, and layered distressed surface create a powerful architectural presence. The sculpture carries strong California studio craft and postmodern primitive influences rather than authentic ethnographic origins.
Internal construction materials and period newsprint fragments—including identifiable commercial references from the era—support dating to the late 20th century.
