This 19th century, French, Gerson and Weber lozenge shaped writing box features ebony veneer, string and bone inlay, squared corners, … Read more This 19th century, French, Gerson and Weber lozenge shaped writing box features ebony veneer, string and bone inlay, squared corners, and Italianate and bone inlay with ink and crosshatching. Made from a mix of wood, bone, cotton velvet and brass, this box was originally from the John Beecher Estate and comes with a handwritten letter of provenance. At the bottom of the bottom brass plate, it is marked "Gerson Weber Paris". The firm of Gerson and Weber exhibited the writing box at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1867. The piece remains in good condition with some wear on the fabric, surface, and a hairline crack on the backside of the box. Missing key. See less
