Mould-blown in amber, the four square faces are worked with vertical rifts and a frost-bitten surface that rises like flame from the base, all held inside a strict architectural silhouette. Thick-walled and heavy for its size — the density is part of the point.

The foot sits in a collar gilded in 24-carat gold by Heimo-Koru Oy of Turku, worked in a dense pattern drawn from Finnish textile weaves. The original "Kultaus 24 Karaattia" gilding label is still in place. The collar carries an engraving plate, which is blank — the vase was never inscribed or presented.

Signed on the base "Kumela Finland" and "E. Wänni".

Kumela was founded in Riihimäki in 1937 by the three Kumela brothers and sold to Humppila in 1976; the works were demolished in 1985. Liekki belongs to the factory's last independent decade. This piece has an attribution mark,
