A striking Italian Rococo Revival cabinet-on-stand, dating to the mid-20th century, distinguished by an exceptionally elaborate program of carved, antiqued-gilt and polychrome decoration. The architectural cabinet is raised on an exuberantly carved Rococo base with cabriole legs, pierced scrolling apron, floral ornament and shaped stretchers.
The two paneled doors are richly embellished with dimensional floral and foliate carving, including scrolling rocaille, garlands, shells and stylized botanical motifs, highlighted in a warm antiqued-gold finish against a honey-toned ground. The molded cornice and architectural framing complement the highly sculptural lower stand, creating a dramatic silhouette characteristic of Italian interpretations of the Rococo Revival.
The cabinet opens to reveal a contrasting painted interior with two shelves, adding an unexpected layer of color and decorative character. Decorative tassel pulls further enhance its theatrical presentation.
