A striking pair of antique French jardinière or indoor plant stands dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Each tall, sculptural stand features a circular molded rim above a gently waisted body fitted with four shaped panels of traditional woven cane.
The stands are raised on four long, elegantly curved cabriole legs terminating in delicate scroll feet. Subtle carved detailing at the shoulders and knees lends the pair their unmistakable Louis XV character without overwhelming their wonderfully light, architectural silhouettes.
Each stand retains its original deep copper liner, complete with interior lifting rings. The copper has developed a richly mottled surface with warm reddish tones, dark oxidation, and touches of natural green verdigris—the sort of honest patina that cannot be convincingly manufactured.
Perfect for displaying palms, orchids, ferns, or flowering plants, these would be especially dramatic placed symmetrically beside an entry, fireplace, console, or pair of French doors. They are equally appealing without plants as sculptural decorative objects.
Finding one antique jardinière stand of this height and delicacy is uncommon; finding a closely matched pair is considerably more difficult.
