A beautiful example of American Mid-Century Modern design, this circa 1950 blonde wood credenza or buffet is attributed to Heywood-Wakefield and its M193 design.

The piece features the streamlined, sculptural styling for which Heywood-Wakefield became known during the mid-20th century, including softly rounded corners, a gently curved top edge, distinctive elongated wooden drawer pulls, and a warm blonde finish.

The highly functional design incorporates four spacious center drawers flanked by two cabinet doors, each opening to generous interior storage with shelving. The combination of drawers and concealed cabinet storage makes this an exceptionally versatile piece for use as a dining room buffet, living room credenza, entry console, media cabinet, or bedroom storage piece.

The interior of the drawers displays particularly attractive figured wood grain, highlighting the quality of construction.

The cabinet measures 54 inches wide × 18 inches deep × 34 inches high, dimensions that closely correspond with documented Heywood-Wakefield credenzas from this period. A documented M193 example is likewise approximately 54 inches wide and 34 inches high and is described with two cabinet doors, adjustable shelving, three standard drawers and one larger drawer—the same configuration seen here.

No manufacturer's stamp or label has been located on this particular piece; therefore, it is being offered as attributed to Heywood-Wakefield based upon its design, construction, configuration, period and dimensions.

A wonderful piece of classic American Mid-Century Modern furniture with unmistakable Streamline Moderne and Art Deco influences.

Condition

Good vintage condition consistent with age and use. The piece retains its warm blonde finish and presents beautifully overall. There are scattered surface scratches, small scuffs, finish wear and minor marks, particularly to the top and cabinet areas, as shown in the photographs. These imperfections are consistent with a piece approximately 75 years old and contribute to its authentic vintage character.
