dramatic antique carved wood armchair featuring an architectural arched back, elaborate foliate crest, barley-twist supports and stretchers, carved floral blocks, and sculptural hand rests. The tall back and seat are inset with woven cane, giving the substantial frame a lighter, airy quality.
The chair has been painted a cheerful mustard-yellow/golden finish, creating a striking contrast with the pale cane. Particularly distinctive details include the pierced leaf-carved crest, central shield-like cartouche, turned finials, spiral columns, carved apron molding, and highly unusual hand-form terminals at the arms.
