The antique painting depicts a naive landscape scene with a white cottage in a green field, with blue skies above. A bright red chimney with its rising smoke speaks of a lively household. The spot of yellow shines the light internally. The whole painting has a fairytale feel to it. You almost expect characters in a novel to appear out of the "deep-in-the-woods" cottage.

From the New York based F.W. Devoe & Co. stamp on the back we can date this to the late 19th Century to early 20th Century. No signature is found.

We love everything about this painting, including the clusters of trees and foliage, the flattened bold colors, and that big enough rock where one can sit and contemplate the scene.
