"The Caught Lovers" is a limited edition lithograph, hand signed in pencil and numbered IX/XXX (9/30) by the artist. The print depicts a man and woman leaning against a railing, their faces obscured, rendered from an aerial perspective in Balet's signature muted blues and greens. The geometric patterns of the pier or boardwalk create a sense of isolation and quiet intimacy. Signed lower right, numbered lower left.
Jan Balet (German-American, 1913-2009) became renowned for his "contemporary primitive" style that explored human relationships and emotions with subtle psychological depth.
