The composition is especially appealing for its vigorous, expressive brushwork and luminous palette of colors.

The simplicity of the rendition of the workers, in particular, gives this painting a distinctly Modernist character.

Signed, as best determined, "Piteira," lower right; country of origin, unknown. Varnished, the painting might profit from a cleaning, but the colors are vibrant and rich as is. The frame has a distinctly MCM flavor, and is in acceptable condition. There's a shallow, thin scratch on the painting, on a diagonal, of about 6 inches, which starts near the lower left of the building to the left and travels upward to that building and slightly beyond, being mostly difficult to see.

Dimensions: 30 1/2 wide by 24 3/8 high, including the frame. The visible artwork measure about 27 by 20 3/4. See less
