High quality, vintage reproduction Chinese export Armorial porcelain plate with British East India armor and banner.
The central crest features the company's official armorial shield supported by two lions holding St. George's cross flags reading "Auspicio Regis Et Senatus Anglia," translated as "By the authority of the King and Parliament of England." The well of the plate is decorated with delicate Famille Rose style pink floral sprays, framed by red and gilt patterned rim.
Measures 13" x 10 3/4" x 2".
Excellent condition, no chips, cracks, or repairs.
The East India Company was an English and later British joint-stock company formed to trade in the Indian Ocean region, initially with Mughal India and the East Indies, and later with Qing China.
Armorial ware of this style was custom ordered by merchants or officials working for the company during the 18th and 19th centuries.
