They are in excellent condition. Charles Arhenfeldt Limoges dinner plates in this condition and quality from the turn of the century are quite rare.

These plates were produced and hand-painted by Charles Arhenfeldt Limoges in Limoges, France for Higgins & Seiter, a prominent New York City retailer of fine china, porcelain, and cut glass that operated from 1887 until 1915, making the plates at least 111 years old. Charles Ahrenfeldt Limoges was reknowned for producing the finest hand-painted porcelain which was sold in Europe and the United States.

Charles Ahrenfeldt, born in Germany in 1807, immigrated the the United States and later established a porcelain decorating studio in Paris in the 1840s, working for many years with porcelain produced in Limoges. In 1884, he opened his own factory in Limoges with full-scale operation both producing and decorating porcelain. His son, Charles J. Ahrenfeldt, born in 1856 assumed control after his father's death in 1894. See less
