The Ice Breaker … Read more Classic Scandinavian design - simple and elegant - by reknowned glass and porcelain designer, Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985). The Ice Breaker glassware series by Iittala was manufactured primarily from 1968 to 1974, with a secondary production run from 1986 to 1987. The base features a design of various sizes of icebergs and drift ice floating on the water surface, depicted as triangular pyramids. It was one of the works exhibited at the Milan Triennale in 1968.

Iittala, founded as a glassworks in 1881, is a Finnish design brand specialising in design objects, tableware and cookware. Tapio Wirkkala first launched his designs with Iittala in 1954. Tapio Wirkkala was one of the most important figures in leading Finnish design to international success, and one of the most prominent designers of the 20th century. He was very prolific and produced a wide range of designs, including for Venini, in Italy, and Rosenthal, in Germany, among other famous producers of glass and porcelain. He won many awards and was particularly noted for his designs of the Finlandia vodka bottle and for Iittala's Ultima Thule set of glasses. See less
