The composition depicts an atmospheric gathering around a long table illuminated by tall candlesticks. Figures converse and dine beneath monumental classical statues, while a seated musician playing a guitar occupies the foreground.

Brayer builds the scene through a sophisticated palette of deep blue-green, black, ivory and warm ochre tones, combining expressive line work with the strong graphic qualities for which his works on paper are particularly appreciated.

The lithograph is signed “Yves Brayer” in pencil at the lower right and numbered in pencil at the lower left. The visible numbering reads “34/…”, with the total edition currently concealed beneath the mat.

Yves Brayer was an important French painter, draftsman and printmaker. His strong interest in graphic art led him to work extensively in lithography and engraving, and he also illustrated numerous limited-edition literary works. His work is represented by the Musée Yves Brayer in Les Baux-de-Provence.

Presented under glass in a simple gilt frame with a cream-colored mat.

The sheet shows age-related toning and yellowing, together with some light spotting visible in the margins, consistent with the condition noted when the work was sold at auction. The colors and printed image remain attractive and clearly defined. The frame shows minor signs of age and use. Please refer carefully to the detailed photographs.

The reverse retains an older biographical clipping concerning Yves Brayer.

A particularly atmospheric example of French mid-20th-century figurative printmaking, well suited to a dining room, library, gallery wall or eclectic interior.
