The rounded body is hand … Read more A wonderfully decorative vintage Japanese porcelain vase by Goldcastle Chikusa, dating to approximately the 1940s. The rounded body is hand painted with a continuous landscape of pagodas, bridges, figures, boats, distant mountains and flying cranes in vivid shades of cobalt blue, yellow, red and green, accented by raised enamel details. Glossy black scroll-form handles flank the shoulders and coordinate with the dramatically contrasting black neck and foot. The underside retains the Goldcastle Hand Painted Chikusa Made in Japan mark associated with Tashiro Shoten of Nagoya, making this an especially charming example of mid-20th-century Japanese decorative porcelain.
