Measures 7" wide, 5 1/2" deep and 19" tall.

This artwork is an original carved wood sculpture by the contemporary Costa Rican artist Henry Villalobos. The piece showcases Villalobos's signature style of working with fallen, decomposing native woods. He uses a direct carving technique (talla directa) that highlights the natural grain, flows and organic textures of the wood itself. His abstract, elongated forms are heavily inspired by the female silhouette. They are designed to convey themes of movement, strength, balance and sensuality. The fluid, ribbon-like wooden structure twists upward to create an elegant sense of vertical energy. It is securely mounted onto a minimalist, square black wooden display base.

Henry Villalobos is an acclaimed self-taught sculptor originally from the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica. He began sculpting at age 25 and operates out of his local studio workshop. His works have been exhibited internationally, including at prominent global events like World Wood Day in China and Turkey. See less
