Designed by Paolo Deganello for Driade in 1981, the Squash sofa is a distinctive work of Italian Postmodern design. Its high, gently curving back rises from an inclined black lacquered platform, supported by a graphic arrangement of black-finished metal braces and triangulated legs. Deganello conceived the enveloping back as an architectural element capable of defining and dividing a living space.
This 1980s example measures 75 inches wide, 32 inches deep, and 37 inches high, with a 21-inch seat depth and 16-inch seat height. Its compact proportions give the sculptural design a strong presence while remaining versatile for a range of interiors.
The sofa is upholstered in a textured woven textile with an undulating pattern in black and layered brown tones over a warm light beige-to-oatmeal ground. The upholstery complements the sculptural black lacquered platform and graphic metal support structure, emphasizing the expressive geometry of Deganello’s design.
The design is documented in Paolo Deganello’s archive and Driade historical material as the Squash sofa, designed in 1981. This example is unlabelled.

The wooden platform is clean with a satin black lacquer finish.
