Beautifully modeled and hand painted, the children wear wonderfully detailed period clothing in soft green, coral, blue and golden tones, with the girl's bright red bow and illustrated storybook providing especially appealing details. Dating to approximately the 1950s, the figures display the expressive modeling and softly shaded glaze associated with Japanese export ceramics of the period. The undersides are marked “Japan” and “Made in Japan,” and the pair has developed attractive glaze crazing and surface character consistent with age. See less
