Laholm was one of Sweden’s major pottery centers, and its postwar production was distinguished by a variety of forms, reliefs, and experimental glazes.

The vase has a balanced form that tapers slightly toward the top, with a short neck. Its surface features a deep, brownish-gray tone with a slightly textured surface. Against this dark background is a wide decorative band featuring hand-decorated, stylized fish. The fish figures are covered with glazes in shades of blue, green, purple, yellow, and white, creating a highly distinctive, almost illustrative pattern.

Particularly interesting is the contrast between the matte, raw surface of the ceramic and the glossy, vividly colored sections of glaze. The decoration has a distinctly organic and expressive character, yet remains firmly rooted in the aesthetics of Swedish modernism of the 1960s and 1970s. Laholm Keramik’s production featured both relief and painted decorations inspired by nature; animal motifs, including fish and birds, were common in Swedish ceramics of that period.
