Loving (1907–1971), the Louisiana artist celebrated for his finely rendered etchings of the French Quarter.

Titled in pencil “‘Pop’ Whitesell’s Studio / Old New Orleans,” this limited-edition etching captures an elaborate wrought-iron gateway opening into a secluded courtyard beyond—a quintessential New Orleans view rendered with Loving’s remarkable attention to architectural detail.

The work is pencil numbered 3/200 and signed Eugene E. Loving at lower right. It is presented under glass with a generous neutral mat in a slender gilt wood frame whose aged finish adds warmth and character.

Loving settled in New Orleans during the Great Depression and became particularly associated with depictions of the streets, courtyards and historic architecture of the French Quarter.

A handsome addition to a collected gallery wall, study or library, and especially compelling for a collector of New Orleans, Southern regional or architectural art.

Measures 14.75” tall, 10.25” wide and .675” deep.

In very good vintage condition consistent with age. The gilt frame displays visible rubbing, finish loss and surface wear. The mat and artwork show age-related toning and scattered marks that add to the character. Please refer closely to photographs. See less
