This is an early 20th-century Italian Louis XV Revival armchair, crafted in walnut with a beautifully shaped and hand-carved frame. Dating to approximately the 1920s–1930s, the chair features a tall serpentine back crowned with carved foliate decoration, curved open arms, a shaped apron and cabriole legs.
The most notable feature is the double hand-caned back with layered woven cane creating wonderful depth and texture in the tall back. The seat is single caning. Traditional pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery is visible throughout the frame, reflecting old-world furniture-making techniques. The underside retains its original stenciled “Made in Italy” mark.
The walnut has developed a warm, rich patina that highlights the carving and sculptural lines of the chair. Only a bit of beeswax was used for cleaning.
The height and slender proportions lend this chair to fill a corner or space in and entry where it will be appreciated but not put to hard use.

On the underside, a screw was found that appears to be reinforcing the frame in one spot. There is no outer sign of this repair. The original/older caning remains remarkably well preserved overall, with one small localized break to the seat cane, as shown in photographs. The cane has intentionally been left as found rather than replaced in order to preserve its beautifully aged appearance. less
