Presented almost frontally against a softly modulated brown ground, the animal commands the composition through its steady gaze, spreading ears, and upward-curving horns. The close framing gives this modestly scaled painting the presence of a formal portrait, concentrating attention on the individuality of its subject.

Warm ochre, russet, and golden-brown passages describe the coat, with lighter strokes articulating the curled hair across the forehead and the contours surrounding the eyes. Deep shadows define the broad muzzle, while a narrow red accent at the mouth provides a striking point of contrast. The neck and shoulder dissolve into the surrounding earth tones, allowing the carefully delineated head to emerge with particular clarity.

This relationship places the work within the French animalier tradition associated with her closely observed depictions of livestock.

The painting is housed in a substantial gilt-finished wood and composition frame, richly ornamented with scrolling foliage, floral detail, and pronounced corner embellishments.
