The brushwork is loose and painterly, typical of Dutch tile painting.

The tile is backed by a Sphinx blank (the Maastricht maker), with the embossed Sphinx mark and "Made in Holland" on the reverse. A handwritten note on the back reads "Royal Goedewaagen, Gouda, Made in Holland."

It's set in a textured oatmeal linen frame with a deep teal wood liner that picks up the cobalt tones. It's wired for hanging and also stands well on a plate stand, so it works on a gallery wall, a bookshelf, or a kitchen or bath vignette. It's a nice piece for English Traditional, Dutch Colonial, or coastal cottage interiors, and pairs well with blue-and-white collections.
