A captivating pastel portrait of two English Setters by artist Ole Larsen, in a gold wash frame. The faces, eyes and color of these two are so beautifully executed, they look as if they could leap off the picture. Signed by the artist and dated 1949. An incredible portrait.
Ole Larsen (1898 - 1984). A free-lance animal artist and illustrator, Ole Larsen was born in Manistee, Michigan on January 20, 1898, the son of Frederick Carl and Augusta (Lemke) Larsen. He studied at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts* from 1916 to 1921; at the Chicago Art Institute* in 1922; and in New York City at the American Academy of the Fine Arts* in 1946. The artist specialized in paintings of animals and animal portraiture; illustrations for judging manual farm animals pictorially; and illustrations for medical circulars and pamphlets for veterinary medicine. The artist had one-man shows in St. Louis; Pittsburgh; Chicago; Detroit; Lafayette, Indiana; Kenosha, Wisconsin; and. New York.
