Village craftsmen built it with mortise and tenon joinery secured by wooden pegs, with no nails or glue. It's the same method that has held such tables together through generations of daily use.
Stripped to reveal the natural beauty of the old wood, the table keeps the patina of that long history.
In the late 18th century, neoclassical lines spread from Parisian workshops to the French countryside. Rural craftsmen gave the slender tapered leg to sturdy furniture made for everyday life. A country table of such length stood at the heart of the home, often in the middle of the kitchen or dining room. Families gathered around it for generations, and it was the center of family meals and their preparation.
Patina, history, and elegance come together in a table that carries beautifully into this new century. Set with upholstered dining chairs, a mix of antique chairs, or a pair of benches, it brings warmth and character to a modern kitchen or dining room.
