A charming 19th century French Napoleon III jewelry box crafted in richly figured burl wood with contrasting wood banding and fine inlaid details. The beveled lid is centered with a decorative brass cartouche framed by stylized foliate inlay, while dark linear stringing provides an elegant contrast to the warm tones of the wood.
The box retains its brass hardware and keyhole and opens to reveal a fitted silk lined interior finished with decorative cord trim. The combination of burl wood, marquetry, brass and the softly aged interior gives this small jewelry box wonderful period character.
