This antique cabinet from Italy is designed with canted sides that angle gently back from the front, creating a softened polygonal outline. Accentuating this architectural shape are the projecting stepped front corners, where the top and plinth extend slightly outward before transitioning into the angled side panels, lending depth and visual interest to the facade. The slightly overhanging top follows the same angular outline below. The case houses a pair of doors at center with decorative panels featuring an elongated diamond motif, with elegantly curved lines. The base mirrors the faceted form of the top, with molded edges wrapping continuously around the angled front and sides, creating a pleasing sense of balance from top to bottom. The cabinet is raised on small turned bun feet, that provide a subtle lift and prevent the case from appearing visually heavy. Doors open to reveal a single shelf, providing practical storage. Vintage red patterned lining adds warmth to the interior presentation. The walnut (or similar fruitwood) exhibits beautiful grain patterns and a deep, mellow color developed through decades of age. Condition is consistent with its 19th century origins, showing expected wear, surface marks, and patina throughout, all of which enhance its antique character. Modest in scale at just 51.5 inches wide, with a particularly desirable shallow 17-inch depth, it offers impressive presence without overwhelming a room. This 19th Century Italian buffet would work beautifully as a small sideboard in a dining room, a hallway cabinet beneath artwork or a mirror, or perhaps a distinctive bar cabinet in a living room.
