Offered is a cast bronze and coiled rope bust created in Benin during the late 19th Century and acquired at the Albert F Gordon Tribal Arts Gallery in New York in the early 1970s.
Similar busts are typical of the Beninese and Nigerian tribes that inhabited the Niger River delta. The rope has been colored using the muddied earth native to the river banks.
It measures 11" in diameter, stands 14" tall.
