A commanding antique Persian engraved copper tray, 27.25" in diameter, with a deeply scalloped, fluted rim and a densely worked Qajar-style hunting scene. At the center, a mounted rider on a richly caparisoned horse is surrounded by flowering branches and exotic birds within a floral border. A wide surrounding field teems with horsemen, hounds and game in a continuous chase, framed by floral and paisley bands. Each flute of the rim carries a engraved leafy blossom. The fine hand chasing, dotting and cross-hatching are crisp throughout, and the white-metal (tinned) wash survives in the recesses against warm copper tones.
The underside is tinned and bears a hand-engraved Persian cartouche, a maker's or owner's mark.
