The raised, hand-applied decoration gives the vase a rich, tactile surface. Barbotine, ceramic decorated with thick layers of colored slip, became a fashion in France in the late 19th century. Age-appropriate wear and a soft patina speak to a long and honest working life. Set on a console, mantel or shelf, it brings history and material honesty to a considered interior. See less
