The diminutive strainer displays remarkably detailed workmanship. A deeply pierced central bowl is framed by an elaborate openwork border incorporating traditional Chinese auspicious imagery, including Shou longevity medallions, birds and animals interspersed among grape clusters, vines, foliage and floral ornament.

The short integral handle continues the richly worked botanical decoration. An impressed Chinese maker or workshop mark appears on the reverse.

The contrast between the silver surface and naturally darkened recessed areas beautifully defines the intricate openwork and relief decoration. The piece has not been aggressively polished, preserving the character and patina associated with its age.

A distinctive example of turn-of-the-century Chinese silverwork that would make a beautiful addition to a collection of Chinese Export silver, Asian decorative arts or antique tea wares.

CONDITION
