Originally conceived in the manner of a church altar or chancel light, the lamp has a substantial three-footed architectural base and tall reeded column enriched with foliate ornamentation. The naturally aged bronze surfaces have developed a deep patina that emphasizes the sculptural detailing and historic character of the piece. The lamp is crowned by a large torch-flame glass shade, dramatically moulded to resemble rising flames. Its multicoloured tinted glass produces a particularly warm and atmospheric effect when illuminated, reinforcing the ceremonial character of the design. The combination of ecclesiastical symbolism, substantial bronze construction and sculptural glass makes this an imposing decorative object as well as a functional light. Fitted with a B22 bayonet bulb holder.
