This vintage majolica leaf and blossom pitcher presents a plump, pear-shaped silhouette, with a full, rounded belly that narrows toward a softly undulating rim and a generous pouring spout, all raised on a low, turned foot ring. Crafted from ceramic in the Victorian majolica tradition, the body is molded in bold relief with large, serrated chestnut-style leaves in layered emerald and jade, their finely incised veins radiating from deeply modeled midribs. Between them, sprays of creamy white blossoms with golden-orange centers and blush-tipped petals climb the luminous turquoise ground, accompanied by small buds and trailing sprigs. The strap handle is sculpted as a gnarled brown branch wrapped in a twisting ribbon of soft lavender, a playful detail that echoes the lilac glaze lining the interior. A mottled, tortoiseshell-brown rim traces the lip, and the foot is glazed in a warm, honeyed ochre. The relief is crisp and tactile, and the glaze is glassy and saturated, pooling to darker tones in the recesses. Fresh, whimsical, and full of garden charm, the pitcher feels like a blossoming spring bough brought to the table.
Display this pitcher on a sideboard, mantel, dining table, or open hutch, or use it as a vase for garden stems, flowering branches, or soft greenery. It complements Victorian, Cottage, English Country, Grandmillennial, and Coastal interiors. To care for it, hand wash gently with mild soap and warm water, avoid soaking, dishwashers, and sudden temperature changes, and dry thoroughly to protect the glaze and applied relief; due to the crazing, it is best suited to display or light dry use. The pitcher measures 5.25 inches (133 mm) wide, 4.5 inches (114 mm) deep, and 6.25 inches (159 mm) high. Condition is very good, with a vibrant original glaze, minor age-appropriate crazing, slight wear on the base, and no visible chips or cracks. Add this charming antique to your collection today.
