Wide, low and banded in metal, it carries a weathered red-brown paint that has worn through at the edges and along the staves, the way a working barrel does after decades in the fields. Hand-built stave barrels like this were everyday farm containers, made to be dragged, stacked and refilled for generations.

At 28 inches across and 12 inches tall, it holds a large plant, a season of firewood beside the hearth or a stack of rolled towels in a bathroom. The painted finish warms a neutral room, and the shallow height keeps it easy to move.
