This vintage gray clay storage jar shows the faint spiral lines of the potter's wheel and a pale ridge circling the shoulder. Jars of this shape were built to hold water, grain and provisions, and the weathered skin is the record of that work.

At 16 inches wide and nearly 17 inches tall, it is a strong floor piece for an entry, hearth or the corner of a living room. Fill it with flowering branches or dried stems, or let the soft gray and tan tones stand alone beside plaster, linen and pale wood.
