A beautiful matched set of six 19th-century Austro-Hungarian solid .800 silver pedestal cordial or liqueur cups, assayed in Zadar, historically known as Zara.
Each diminutive cup features an elegantly proportioned bowl supported by a slender pedestal and circular foot. Displayed together, the six form a particularly handsome collection of Imperial Austro-Hungarian silver.
The cups bear the Diana head hallmark accompanied by the number 3, denoting .800 silver. The assay designation N identifies Zadar/Zara, placing the set within the Austro-Hungarian silver hallmarking system.
Based upon the hallmark configuration, the cups date to the 19th century, most likely circa 1867–1872.
An additional impressed punch represents the individual silversmith or workshop responsible for their manufacture. This maker’s mark remains unidentified.
The interiors are silver rather than gilt and retain the attractive naturally aged surface of antique silver.
A complete matched group of six with surviving period hallmarks, these cups are an appealing addition to a collection of Continental silver and equally beautiful displayed as historic European barware.
