Masterfully hand-crafted from solid pine, the bench features a beautifully shaped crest rail over a striking open-slat backrest. The back and armrests have pierced geometric splats featuring stylized fan/wheat carvings.
Uniquely practical, the front section pulls out completely to reveal its original dual-purpose design - serving as a spacious kitchen or entryway settee by day and expanding into a cozy trundle daybed by night. The interior box retains an easy reddish-brown paint wash finish, a common historical treatment to preserve the wood interior.
The craftsmanship is outstanding, featuring authentic hand-cut through-dovetail joints visible on the expanding drawer casing and mortise-and-tenon construction. The exterior has been scraped to display a naturally weathered patina with exceptional wood grain developed over more than a century of use. Includes a removable, newly upholstered custom box cushion in a classic black and white striped textile. This is a heavy sturdy piece that offers many more years of use. See less
