Table top made of solid hand planed oak planks with visible square pegs along the joints. Base with turned legs in solid oak. Two legs pivots to support the leaves, hence the name gateleg.
The gateleg table was first introduced in England in the 15th century and has since been made in many versions but with the same basic design with the drop leaves and pivoting legs.

When fully extended the oval table top measures 140 x 160.5 centimeters (55 x 63 inches)

This high quality table was commissioned by the owners a large Danish manor house where it has been in a room that was rarely used since the 1930s. It therefore shows minimal signs of use.
This occasional folding table is also suitable as a console table when not extended.

Beautiful and tactile surface.

Very good original condition with light patina consistent with age and use. See less
