This item is a Japanese painting framed in a Tanzaku-kake (短冊掛), a specialized wooden hanging frame used for displaying narrow vertical art panels known as tanzaku.
The frame is constructed from burned cedar wood (焼杉), giving it a distinctive textured, dark brown appearance.
It holds a paper panel featuring a hand-painted scene of a kingfisher on a branch.
The tanzaku art panel can be slid out and swapped.
