The central body of this large, drum-shaped porcelain garden seat features a finely rendered underglaze cobalt blue narrative painting of the celebrated "Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove" The 3rd-century scholars, poets, and musicians are depicted resting in relaxed, leisurely postures beneath a sprawling, ancient pine tree—symbolizing longevity and scholarly resilience. Some figures converse while others are depicted drinking wine and playing musical instruments.
The top and lower parameters are punctuated by bands of raised ceramic studs or bosses that replicate the rivet heads found on classic Chinese ceremonial drums. The sides feature distinct, relief-molded zoomorphic mask faux ring handles.
Crucially, this piece bears partial remnants of a red wax Jianding export custom seal applied to the porcelain body.
This seal confirms the object was evaluated by state cultural authorities in the mid-to-late 20th century and officially cleared for legal international departure as an exportable antique.
