Rectangular in form, the piece is constructed around a wooden framework and extensively covered in tightly woven rattan, creating a finely textured surface. Rounded edges and slender rattan bindings reinforce the perimeter while preserving the trunk’s remarkably streamlined profile.

The front is fitted with dark patinated iron hardware, including a central lock plate with carrying handle and two additional clasps. The hinged lid opens to reveal a warm-toned wooden interior retaining traces of painted decoration and age-related surface markings. Fabric straps secure the lid when opened.

The rich brown coloration of the woven exterior, together with the naturally aged iron fittings and exposed areas of warm wood, gives the trunk considerable character. Originally intended for storage and travel, it could now serve equally well as a decorative object, document or textile box, or displayed as part of a collection of Asian antiques.
