Beautiful 19th-century hand-blown aqua glass soda-water bottle embossed “James Ray, Savannah, GA,” dating to approximately 1870–1885.
James Ray was one of Savannah’s pioneering soda-water bottlers, operating from approximately 1867 to 1885. His contributions to Georgia’s early bottling industry are recognized on a Savannah historical marker alongside fellow bottlers John Ryan and Thomas Maher.
This striking turquoise-aqua bottle features a rounded blob-top mouth, elongated neck, and raised lettering formed using early mold-blown glassmaking techniques.
Its naturally weathered surface, mineral deposits, and aged patina enhance its antique character. A wonderful piece of post–Civil War Savannah history with beautiful coastal decorative appeal.
