The rectangular chest retains its original red painted surface with faded figural and floral decoration across the front. A dark painted lower border with scrolling motifs adds contrast, while the original metal latch remains at the center. Generations of use have created layers of worn pigment, exposed wood, darkened edges, and surface patina that give the box its authentic character.

Traditionally used to hold clothing, textiles, and personal possessions associated with marriage and the household, this wedding box makes a wonderful decorative object today while still offering useful storage. Display it on a low table, console, cabinet, or stand, or use it as a piece of Chinese folk art. Its faded red surface and time-worn decoration bring warmth, history, and color to Santa Fe, boho chic, eclectic, or contemporary interiors.
