Circa early 1940s silvertone two racing horses and a whip with an animal head at the base brooch with security clasp. Marked "JOSEFF HOLLYWOOD" on a cartouche on the back top. Measures: 1 1/4 inches tall by 3 1/4 inches wide. Condition: Very good; some tarnishing particularly on the back normal for its age and material.
The design is very similar to the one on Rhett Butler's cigar case (see 2nd photo) in Gone with the Wind (1939), which was also made by Joseff of Hollywood. Since this brooch is not made of sterling, it indicates that it was made prior to metal rationing for WWII, which began in 1943.
